Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
The wildlife reserve at Gansbaai is about 124 hectare large and on a slope of the Potberg Mountains with a view towards Walker Bay. It is recommended to rent a car in order to explore the surrounding area. Alternatively the journey with a small aircraft is around 40 minutes and provides an unrivalled view of the coast.

Grootbos comprises of a Garden and Forest Lodge as well as the exclusive Grootbos Villa at Walker Bay.
The free standing chalets of Forest Lodge has been built on the edge of the 1,500 year old Milk Wood and offers direct ocean view with lots of privacy. They have been designed with lots of glass, wood and natural stone blending in perfectly with the landscape of dunes and fynbos.
At the heart of the Lodge there is a swimming pool, restaurant with wine cellar, champagne bar as well as modern conference rooms.
The child friendly Garden Lodge is in the midst of a colourful fynbos garden and also offers a view to the ocean. The free standing suites have been built with stone and local woods influenced with African style elements. In the main lodge there is a swimming pool, restaurant with telescopes on the outdoor terrace, bar, lounge with fireplace, beauty salon as well as stables.
The guests have a reception, 24 hour service, child care as well as a babysitter on request at their disposal. Further the hotel also offers a safari, tour and tour service, postage service, laundry service, library, internet, playground and small boutique available.

FOREST LODGE - SUITE FEATURES:
All suites provide a bedroom, lounge with fire place, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, Sat TV, bathroom with double shower, separate bath tub, heated towel rail, lavatory, hair dryer and bath robes. The large wooden terraces are furnished with sun loungers.
1-Bedroom Luxury Suite Forest Lodge: (around 75 – 82 m²); with bedroom and separate living room.
GARDEN LODGE - FEATURES:
All suites provide a bedroom, lounge with fire place, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, Sat TV, DVD player, bathroom with shower, separate bath tub, heated towel rail, lavatory, hair dryer and bath robes. The large wooden terraces are furnished with sun loungers.
1-Bedroom Classic Suite Garden Lodge: (around 55 – 60 m²); with combined living and bedroom area, only with shower.
1-Bedroom Luxury Suite Garden Lodge: (around 75 – 82 m²); with bedroom and separate living room.
2-Bedroom Luxury Suite: (around 80 – 85 m²); two separate bedrooms with ensuites (one with shower and one with bathtub) and separate living area.
Grootbos Villa: (around 1,000 m²); the private lodge provides six suites, two lounges, one private dining room, one entertainment room with large TV, wine cellar, fully fitted kitchen, braai and private pool. The sun deck offers a 180° view on Walker Bay. Including drinks (excl. French champagne & premium wine), private tours with a guide, 1 day trip to Cape Agulhas & shopping in Hermanus, one wine degustation at Hemel & Aarade vineyard, transfer to the golf course (Arabella & Hermanus) and back.
Furthermore a private ranger, butler as well as cook are available.

In the centre of the extravagant restaurant there is a romantic fireplace.Both the Garden and Forest Lodge have excellent cuisine that spoils with national and international specialities meeting the highest standards.

Zoologists, botanists and marine biologists explain our guests the characteristics of local flora and fauna.
Forest Lodge does not accept children under the age of 12.
