Qatar & Airbus - Cooperation for exploration of bio fuels
Ecological sustainability is nowadays such a major topic. The airline carrier Qatar Airways in cooperation with Airbus have reacted to this issue and embarked on a joint project to develop bio fuels for planes.
The science and technology centre of Qatar and Qatar Petroleum are seeking to explore new ways for sustainable supply of airline carriers with fuel for the operation of their fleets. All substances shall be considered which do not affect the production chain of drinking water and food.
Qatar Airways already successfully used a liquid gas mixture (Gas to Liquid - GTL) instead of kerosene in October 2009 on a commercial flight. This worldwide unparalleled step is regarded as a historic milestone in the aviation industry and a forward-looking move in the development of alternative fuels.
At the press conference in the capital of Qatar Doha which is also the hub for Qatar Airways Akbar Al Baker CEO of the airline carrier stated: „Based on the experience and successes of the GTL consortium we now are entering into the next phase of the development of alternative fuels for our industry, At the same time we will continue to work on the use of GTL for our planes. Whilst others are still taking we are taking decisive action!“
We support this initiative as we also combine our vacations with Qatar Airways!
